Wine Wednesdays

I'm fresh off the redeye from SFO, but I couldn't wait to share one of the highlights and a new discovery from my trip home.  On Saturday after a visit to the Calistoga farmer's market, we made a stop at T Vines tasting room right off Highway 29.  Founded in 1992, the winery was recently taken over and revamped, with a beautiful new tasting room, you can still smell the fresh paint!

They specialize in reds:  "small lots of big juicy wines" - my favorite kind!  We tasted their 2010 Mt. Veeder Grenache, their 2009 St. Helena "Doc Gold" cab, and the 2010 Howell Mountain Zin.  My favorite was by far the Doc Gold cab, named after the local veterinarian in town.  It was incredibly smooth and very approachable for a big bold cab (and tasting in the middle of a 90 degree day).  The nose had hints of black fruit, fresh figs, and the slightest touch of oak.  We had to rush off to our lunch reservation at Solage but I will for sure be making a return visit to T Vines when I'm home next!

Wine:  T Vine 2009 St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon, Doc Gold Vineyard
Purchased:  Tasting Room
Price: $60.00
Would buy again:  Certainly a special occasion wine but well worth it!
