Wine Wednesdays - White Burgundy at Cochon New Orleans

Bonjour, buenos dias, hello!  I'm back.  What a whirlwind of a month, can't quite believe it's over.  I have so many adventures to share with you.

But first, earlier this month we enjoyed a lovely bottle of white Burgundy at Cochon restaurant to kick off our girls' weekend in New Orleans.  The 2013 Montagny 1er Cru by Jean-Marc Boillot was everything I love in a white wine.  100% Chardonnay from the village of Montagny in the Cote Chalonnaise in Burgundy.  It was full of ripe fruit, creamy and round, nice minerality with just a hint of oak on the finish.  It paired perfectly with our fried alligator!  No really.....the bright juicy wine really stood up to the fried batter and chili-garlic mayo!

Everything about our meal was fantastic....I've never seen 5 girls get so intensely down with 5 different pork-dominated dishes.  We finished every last bite.  There was some debate over the absolute "best" dish, with votes split between the namesake cochon, and the smoked ham hock.  If you find yourself in New Orleans, please make it to Cochon, it lived up to every bit of the hype!

Wine Wednesdays - Ten Bells Wine Bar

I recently visited the Ten Bells Wine Bar on the lower east side.  This place has been on my list for quite some time and I'm kicking myself for not getting down there sooner!

It's cozy without being cramped, on a Friday night at 7pm we were quickly seated at 2 bar stools.  They have a great selection of natural and biodynamic wines as well as sharable tapas to mix and match.  We had just missed the oyster happy hour but they serve $1 oysters every day until 7pm.  There is also a great private room in the back if you're looking for a spot to host a group dinner or event.  If you're looking for a glass of wine before dinner or for a fun place to meet after work, I'd highly suggest Ten Bells!

Wine Wednesdays - Birth-Year Wine

I recently celebrated another birthday; how a year has passed is beyond me!  This year was particularly special, with a perfect weekend spent doing all the things I love (eating and drinking) as well as a trip out to the Northfork/Shelter Island.  Full trip recap to come!

On the eve of my birthday we had a delicious dinner at Vine Street Cafe accompanied by a 1986 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon.  I'd never had a birth-year wine before so this was an extra special treat!  Cabernet Sauvignon is hands down my favorite red wine and this really blew me away.  Twenty-nine years later and yet the perfect example of balance, bursting with a bouquet of ripe raspberries, it was so good.  The perfect accompaniment to our classic steak frite.

Headed home in the light of a full moon, not a bad way to usher in another year!

Wine Wednesdays - Spring Tasting at Abbottega

I apologize for the late Wine-Wednesday posting....but we had an exciting real-live Wine Wednesday event!  I paired up with the lovely ladies of Crop Tops and Kale to host a spring tasting.  It was a beautiful night in NYC; we enjoyed every minute of the backyard garden at Abbottega in the West Village.

In honor of the warmer temps, I poured 2 whites and 2 roses.

The line-up:

2014 Coopers Creek Sauvignon Blanc

2012 Shifflett Estate Sauvignon Blanc

2013 Red Hook Winery Rose of Cabernet Franc

2013 La Pepie Rose of Cabernet Franc

It was a wonderful night of delicious wine, tasty bites, and new friends!

If you find yourself in the West Village looking for a lovely spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat, Abbottega is just perfect.  With a cozy, candlelit interior and now a brand new backyard patio, they have you covered no matter the season.  On Wednesdays they are offering l'aperitivo Italiano, including a buffet of small nibbles to pair with your beverage of choice.  I was happy to discover they carry my favorite Roman white wine, Frascati!

If you're interested in hosting a wine tasting or group event, please contact me!  For those in NYC, we hope to have more events like this in the very near future!
